Maharaja Ajasath, who ruled Magadha Empire in North India during the time of Lord Buddha was the son of its greatest monarch King Bimbisara, who are descendants from Haryanka Dynasty. King Bimbisara was famous for his cultural achievements and was a great friend, a protector and a follower of Lord Buddha. Ajasath took over the kingdom of Magadha from his father by imprisoning him and subsequently murdered him brutally. Ajasath followed the policy of conquest and expansion of his kingdom, which lead to terrible wars against the neighboring kingdoms. Aspiration of Ajasath was aflame at the provocation by Monk Devadatta, who was looking for ways and means of taking revenge on Lord Buddha. However Magadha became the most powerful kingdom in Northern India and its power was felt far and wide. But Maharaja Ajasath repented throughout the rest of his life on atrocities he had committed especially on his father, whose legs were pierced with a knife, then pour salt and hot oil until he died of severe pain but the repentance was of no use.
