The Alvin and the Chipmunks live-action movies may not be huge critical successes, but they have done quite well at the box office. Case in point, the third instalment in the franchise, Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, having taken in excess of $342 million at the worldwide box office (back in 2011).
Usually released to coincide with the holiday season, it is no surprise that these movies are popular with families and young kids, who seemingly never tire of the high-pitched singing rodents. Just as well, really, since the fourth Alvin and the Chipmunks instalment has just released its first trailer.
Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip, will arrive in theaters in time for Christmas 2015 and once again features the voice talents of Justin Long (Alvin), Matthew Gray Gubler (Simon) and Jesse McCartney (Theodore). Jason Lee also returns as the chipmunk’s exasperated guardian, Dave. The movie is directed by Walt Becker (Wild Hogs, Old Dogs) from a screenplay by Randi Mayem Singer (Mrs Doubtfire, Toothfairy).

The official synopsis for the film is as follows:
“Through a series of misunderstandings, Alvin, Simon and Theodore come to believe that Dave is going to propose to his new girlfriend in New York City…and dump them. They have three days to get to him and stop the proposal, saving themselves not only from losing Dave but possibly from gaining a terrible stepbrother.”
There is no actual hint of this storyline in the first Road Chip trailer, other than the chipmunk’s excitement at going on a road trip, but there is more of their unique singing to behold. This time it’s a cover of ‘Uptown Funk’ which will definitely get young children laughing out loud. The movie might not be one of the best or most profound releases of 2015 but it will certainly prove enjoyable to young children – and no doubt parents will be grateful for the almost two hours of peace they will get in the run up to Christmas.
Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip will be released in U.S. theaters on December 23rd, 2015.
